Users, Roles & Permissions
Clearline LIMS uses role-based access control. A user’s roles determine which modules they can see and which workflow actions they can perform.
Common Roles
| Role | Typical Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Lab Clerk | Register and receive samples, print labels, manage intake fields |
| Analyst | Enter and submit results, work with worksheets |
| Verifier | Review, retract, and verify submitted results |
| Lab Manager | Manage workflow, publish reports, access broader setup areas |
| Client Contact | View scoped client data and published reports where portal is enabled |
| Manager/Admin | Tenant administration, configuration, and support-level operations |
Roles are additive. A lab manager may also be an analyst and verifier.
Group-Based Access
Best practice is to assign users to groups that carry roles, such as Lab Analysts, Lab Managers, or Client Portal Users. This keeps permissions consistent when staff change.
Data Scoping
Client users are scoped to their own organization. Lab staff generally see the full tenant. Cross-tenant data is isolated by Clearline hosting and configuration.
